Preserving a Child’s Innocence By Kim Andrews
As the carousel turns, The children smile. Yet, when it stops, Their smile suddenly turns to a frown. Their innocence is quite refreshing. To see and hear their little voices, Makes me wonder why people want to grow up. Life is so simple, so pure, so real. The glove of a child is a prized possession, One which will stay in their memories forever. Childhood is an unforgotten time, A time to learn to love and accept. Love all for who they are, And accept all for what they have to offer. Perfection lies in the hand of the beholder, What is perfection to one, might not be perfection to another? Yet, it is not wrong. As the carousel turns, The children are happy. They are free from danger, Their innocence can beam through. Yet, as it stops, Their innocence diminishes. I am sad. Why would someone want to grow up? Innocence is the key to happiness, One day people will realize that. But, obviously not today. However, when the day comes, I will be happy again. |
